St Patrick's Boys AFC Pink v GRS United AFC
u12 div 2 14/10 13:00
St Patrick's Boys AFC Pink 3 - 1 GRS United AFC

This was a first meeting of St. Patrick's Boys (Pink) and Green Road School (GRS) United AFC. St. Pats started well with Grainne Thomspon and Aoife Smithers in mid-field working well with Maeve O'Neill up front. The home side was rewarded after about 15 minutes when O'Neill gave her side the lead. GRS United regrouped from the kick-off, putting a lot of pressure on the Pat's midfield and defense. The remainder of the half saw some good football from both sides. Just as half-time approached Lorcan O'Connor capitalised on a attack from the left wing to score an excellent equaliser for GRS United. 1-1 at the break. The second half started in the same sporting spirit and it was Aine Fallon who separated the teams when she hit the net from a cross by Aoife Kelly. St. Pat's were determined to hold on to their lead and with about 10 minutes to go, Maeve O'Neill collected the ball just beyond the half-way line and made no mistake about converting her second for the day. GRS United were unlucky not to get a second in the last few minutes when Ciara Kelly pulled off a save to leave the final score at 3-1. Best for GRS United were Kevin McKeon, Aaron Meredith and Lorcan O'Connor. Emily Kelly, Aoife Smithers and Grainne Thompson deserve mention in a very good team performance for St. Pats.

NEC v Carlow
Carlow U15's win well in Navan
15/10 14:30
NEC 0 - 3 Carlow

Carlow started the brightest of the two teams and scored after 6 minutes when Jake Haughney's long range effort went low into the bottom right corner past the keeper. Oscar Brennan had a great chance on 10mins after some excellent individual skill but the keeper made a good stop. Both teams exchanged 2 chances a piece before the 25 minute mark with Brandon Kelly coming closest to making it too nil only to be denied by the post. Carlow had the majority of possession and chances in the first half but NEC always looked dangerous on the break and the first half ended 1-0 to Carlow.

Both teams started the second half very lively and their was an increase in tempo to the game for the first 10 minutes but chances were limited. However, Carlow's pressing earned them a corner where Fionn McCaffery rose highest from Dylan Hand corner and Brandon Kelly was there too tap home on 50mins after a good save from the NEC keeper.

Carlow's 2nd goal seemed to take the sting out of NEC bright start to the second half and they controlled possession for the remainder of the game with Myles Hutton adding the 3rd and final goal with 5mins remaining

Both Cretty yard team managers Ramon Buggy and Martin Rice gave full support by allowing pre match preparation to be interrupted by Aine Geoghegan (Club Secretary)

u14 div 2 14/10 16:30
Bagenalstown AFC 4 - 1 St Patrick's Boys AFC

U-14 league

Bagenalstown 4; St. Pat's Boys 1.

Playing against a strong breeze the home side had the bulk of possession and chances,

but the visitors took the lead on 15 minutes with a low strike by Joshua Egan.

St. Pat's goalkeeper David Delgado saved a number of shots to maintain

the lead into the second half.

However, the intense Town pressure paid off when Sean Wall fire home at the back post on

55 minutes to deservedly equalise.

This buoyed the Town and a second home goal came minutes later when James Lillis netted with a fine strike.

Aidan Dowling then struck a free kick from outside the area on 65 minutes, before James Lillis

finished off the scoring with a neat lob from the edge of the area.

Best for St. Pat's were David Delgado, Paulius Venys, and Saiful Islam.

Bagenalstown had fine displays from James Lillis, Sean Wall, Aidan Dowling, Brooklyn Gardiner and Ross O'Neill.

U8 and U9 Blitz Format

The format for the u8 and u9 is also going to be blitz with four teams at each venue playing dual games so there will be four matches going on at the same time on a full pitch. The example below shows what happens when there is two teams and two more will play in the other half and then swap over. With the u8 and u9 everybody will play three 20 minute matches (10 Mins a side). In the event we have uneven number of teams some weeks clubs will just play one game.

U11 and U10 Blitz Format
Blitz procedure

This year the format for u11 and u10 is dual games as above in the diagram so there is two games going on at the same time across a big pitch. There will be one official ref and the clubs take it in turn to officiate the other game. The ref swaps pitches at half time so all kids get equal time with ref. There will be four teams at most grounds every week unless a club ask for the day off. If two of the teams are from the same club then we play two 40 minute matches (20mins a half) to avoid the club playing against itself.

Crettyard United AFC v Wexford celtic
Crettyard AFC vs Wexford Celtic
u14 sfai 14/10 12:45
Crettyard United AFC 0 - 5 Wexford celtic

Crettyard's good run of form ends in the SFAI to the hands of a good Wexford Celtic team. Wexford Celtic chose to play with the strong wind in the first half which did not help the Carlow side. With a very sluggish start to the game Crettyard found themselves 2-0 down after just minutes. Crettyard found it difficult to get out of there half with constant pressure and weather having an effect. 2 goals soon became 3 after 20 minutes. Then Crettyard started to play on the ground and created chances with 2 blocks off the line and a good save by the Wexford keeper. Wexford Celtic then went on and scored 2 more goals before the half. It was a far more characteristic second half by Crettyard as they created many chances and battled to win the ball all over the pitch. However it wasn't their day today. Credit to Wexford Celtic for a solid performance and to Crettyard for a very competitive and enjoyable second half performance.

New Oak Boys AFC v Hanover Harps AFC
New Oak Boys remain undefeated
u14 div 1 14/10 14:00
New Oak Boys AFC 1 - 1 Hanover Harps AFC

With a gale force wind blowing down the pitch it was always going to be a game of two halves and thats how it turned out. Hanover played with the wind first and got off to a dream start when a Dylan Doyle corner was converted from close range by Kyle Nolan. Hanover continued to dominate and a fine save from Lee Purcell kept the score at one nil, and despite dominating the half Hanover couldnt add to there lead.

With the wind advantage in the second half it was New Oaks turn to dominate possession but like Hanover in the first half they struggled to create chances. With time running out New Oak were beginning to think it wasnt their day when they struck the crossbar twice in a couple of minutes. New Oaks perserverence paid off in the closing stages when Andre Carvalho levelled with minutes left to play.

Best for New Oak on the day were Lee Purcell, Daniel Rossiter and Evan Dowling.

Best for Hanover were Jack Murphy, Harry Lloyd and Jack Dunne.

Burrin Celtic 3-1 New Oak Boys
U15 Lge 14/10 11:00
Burrin Celtic AFC 3 - 1 New Oak Boys AFC

Burrin Celtic started brightly and went one up through a Myles Hutton strike after 10 minutes following some excellent play by Ben Ward to create the chance. Myles Hutton was on target again 8 minutes later and Celtic had further opportunities throughout the half but it took a fine strike by Jack O'Neill from the edge of the box in the final minute to put his team 3-0 up at the break. New Oak Boys pulled a goal back five minutes into the second half when Celtic failed to clear from a corner kick. A strong wind made playing conditions difficult for the remainder of the game, with neither team creating any clear chances. Celtic took the points on offer with a 3-1 win. Best for New Oak Boys were Lorcan Canavan, Sean Sanni & Brandon Doyle, while Jamie Fitzgerald, Cian Byrne, Fionn McCaffrey and Jack O'Neill did very well for Burrin Celtic.
